Suspect accused of shooting Albuquerque security guard appears in court

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The suspect in custody for a shooting at a downtown Albuquerque liquor store made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning. Police said that surveillance footage showed Kevin Metcalf as he attempted to walk out of El Rey Liquor, with two stolen bottles. After a security guard confronted the thief, he fired one shot, hitting him in the calf.

El Rey’s manager said the security guard is doing well and recovering. Metcalf was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shoplifting, and negligent use of a deadly weapon. His detention hearing is expected to happen in the next four weeks.
