The wood carvers and wood turners can be found in the Creative Arts Building. Many of the contestants are also members of the New Mexico Wood Turners Association. “Woodturning would be making things with a lathe. Basically, turning implies that it’s round. Doesn’t have to be round. As you look in the cases here, there are pieces that are not round,” said Scott Eckstein, a 15-year wood turner.

In October, some of the pieces at the fair will be on display at the Albuquerque International Sunport. The New Mexico State Fair runs until Sunday, September 15.
