On Tuesday September 10, 2024, Colfax County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a breaking and entering at a residence on Johnson Mesa on Highway 72.
The vehicle involved in the incident was reported to be driving recklessly on Hwy 72. The driver was later identified as Mac Suthers of Oklahoma. While driving across the mesa Suthers found the house alongside the road and broke in. When deputies arrived in the area Suthers was found to be traveling west on Hwy 72 deputies were unable to get Suthers to stop and broke off the pursuit.
After a couple of vehicle chases during the day where Suthers managed to elude deputies he was located later in the evening back at the house on Hwy 72. New Mexico State Police were called in to assist. Deputies and NMSP Officers then made entry into the residence and arrested Suthers without incident.
Suthers is being held at the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center on related charges.
