[1] Albuquerque four-person murder-suicide makes August deadliest month so far – A shooting in the North Valley left four people dead Saturday night at the Valley Apartments on Indian School north of I-40. Police are calling it a murder-suicide. Numbers from the Albuquerque Police Department show that August was the deadliest month to date in 2024 for the metro, with 17 homicides taking place. Those murders make up about a quarter of all killings for the year so far.

[2] 7,000 gallons of PFAS-contaminated water sparks investigation at Cannon Air Force Base – The United States Department of the Air Force is investigating the release of thousands of gallons of contaminated water at Cannon Air Force Base. According to the Air Force base, about 7,000 gallons of water containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were dumped into a lined retention pond on the base between July 9 and July 15.

[3] Mostly rain-free for Labor Day – Two air masses, along with below-normal temperatures for most, are present across New Mexico on this Labor Day. Thunderstorms from Eunice, Hobbs, and Lovington to Carlsbad, as well as Roswell, are moving to the east at a good pace with a batch of showers west of Eunice moving to Estancia. Otherwise, skies are mostly clear from clouds to the northwest with a bit of a chill in the air.

[4] Albuquerque man plans tournament to support hometown in Africa – An Albuquerque man is helping a village in Africa using pickleball. Serge Nana is hosting a tournament this month to help raise funds for kids to have school supplies. Nana was born in Mogtédo, which is a town in Burkina Faso, located in West Africa. He moved to Albuquerque when he was 13 and later founded the non-profit Thrive Mogtedo to help children in his hometown.

[5] New Mexico State Fair offers $5 tickets for Labor Day sale – The New Mexico State Fair is coming up quickly, and if you haven’t secured your tickets yet, you still have one day to get them for a steep discount. Through 4 p.m. on Monday, September 2, the New Mexico State Fair is offering tickets for just $5 for its Labor Day sale.
