Man facing federal charges in connection to shooting of Albuquerque police officer 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who shot an Albuquerque police officer in the hand last year after being caught in a stolen car is now facing federal charges. Santiago Perez is now facing federal charges for being a felon in possession of a gun and possession of a gun to help him traffic drugs.

On December 30, the Albuquerque Police Depratment said an officer pulled up behind a stolen car at the Adams Food Mart on Central Ave. They said Perez, who was driving the car, got out and opened fire hitting Officer Zachary Garris in the hand. Perez was shot in the arm and leg by another officer as he attempted to run away. Officer Garris ended up losing part of his finger.
