Bernalillo County launches Mobile Rec Unit to offer kids safe recreational activities

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County has rolled out a community center on wheels that provides kids who may not have access to services with fun activities. The Mobile Rec Unit travels across the city, especially in southeast Albuquerque, and provides kids with games to play. It’s for those who may not have access to a community center due to a waitlist or their parents being unable to pay.

The mobile rec vans also aim to build trust with the community and provide information on city services for parents. “Engaging with youth, adults, families, that come to the park. Not only to give them something to do but connect them with resources. Everybody here is ready and able to give resources for rental, housing, food access, our staff here has it,” said Bernalillo County Commissioner Adirann Barboa.

The county said providing kids with this outlet will keep them out of trouble.
