TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – Improving and addressing the housing crisis were the topics of conversation on Monday at a Taos town hall. State leaders, Mayor Pascaulito Maestas, and town councilors touted recent programs to expand Medicaid and lower home prices. “We are really trying to battle the forces of economic inequality and how we do that as a local municipality, as a county, as a state is very tough,” said Mayor Maestas.
Residents voiced concerns about how mental health problems are leading to crime, especially among the homeless. The councilors said resources are available to help those in need. They promised to get the word out about those programs.
