Hearings proceed after infectious disease scare at Metropolitan Detention Center

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — On Friday, dozens of court cases were postponed because officials quarantined inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC).

Authorities were worried about a contagious disease outbreak, but the incident was a false alarm.

Three housing units at MDC were placed on quarantine after doctors suspected an inmate might have contracted meningitis. Precautionary measures were stopped after a test came back negative for the disease.

The missed court appearances have continued on Monday.
