Miss Indian World contestants at Gathering of Nations compete for prestigious title

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With celebrations at Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque kicking off on Thursday, contestants for the next Miss Indian World title are showcasing their talents and cultural pride. Twenty-three contestants from all over the United States and Canada are competing for the prestigious title of Miss Indian World.

From traditional dances, language demonstrations, and storytelling, each young woman proudly presented her Native heritage in front of a huge crowd. Event coordinators say the talent portion is a key part of the competition, highlighting their cultural knowledge. “Girls as young as 18 to 25 are competing, they are growing in sisterhood and really coming together to uplift and support one another, and it just feels so good, the energy is just really great here,” said Nikki Santos, Miss Indian World Committee member.

A new Miss Indian World will be crowned Saturday night, succeeding Kassie John of the Navajo Nation.
