A stretch of warm weather continues across New Mexico into the weekend. Showers and storms are likely in eastern New Mexico on Saturday.
Temperatures continued to heat up across New Mexico Wednesday with highs around 10° above average for this time of year. Some places even saw near-record warmth this afternoon. Southerly winds have been a little breezy today, but these winds will die down tonight. While we haven’t seen any storms develop again today in far eastern New Mexico, we may still see one this evening. There have also been a couple sprinkles in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Another isolated storm may be possible in far eastern New Mexico Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will also continue to heat up with high temperatures a degree or two warmer than today. This warming trend continues through Saturday across the state as the winds pick up too. More moisture will move into the eastern half of the state Saturday, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of eastern New Mexico through the day.
Stronger winds develop Sunday afternoon, bringing dry air back across the entire state. This will keep some very warm temperatures around, but a high fire danger may develop. The winds die down early next week as a cold front sweeps across the state. This will bring high temperatures back down closer to average for this time of year.
