Las Cruces police to begin violent crime reduction operation

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – Las Cruces police are starting a crime reduction operation in honor of an officer who died in the line of duty last year. In February 2024, Officer Jonah Hernandez was stabbed to death while responding to a trespassing call.

Next week, Las Cruces officers will be joining New Mexico State Police and Doña Ana County deputies to create a larger presence in violent crime hot spots. Operation Not in Vain runs through August.
