The Raton School Board of Education met April 21, 2025, for their regular meeting of the month starting with a budget hearing and then moving on to the regular portion of the meeting with the installation of new Student Senate members being sworn in.
Teacher salaries will increase this year by 4%. This year 1140 instructional hours will be required and schools with more than 180 school days for 5-day a week schools will receive K-12 plus program funding through the SEG. Student enrollment for the school is at 822 as of April 21. The school should see the student count number of 776 for funding which will be $11,496,274.30 at $6801 per student.
The school has applied for Title I thru Title V funding and are in the waiting to see how the school did on those requests. The 2024 Title IX regulations have been vacated by a federal judge in Kentucky, the district will revert to the previous policy which was written in 2020.
The School Calendar is currently in negotiations with the NEA and once that has been approved and the finance committee reviews the calendar Superintendent Medina will forward that on to the board. Graduation will be on May 23, 2026.
Board members went over the proposal from Manning & Associates for audit services for the upcoming school audit. The proposal includes financial statement audit $26,250, Federal Single Audit $3,500 and the financial statement preparations $3,900 the NMGRT is $2,187.25 for a total $35,837.25.
The board also heard about a requisition for weightlifting equipment for the RHS weight room from Samson, Inc. for a total of $26,829.83 which includes $1,170 in shipping costs and a CES discount of $622.17.
The board is reviewing these policies that are handed down from the state.
