Santa Fe man accused of kidnapping woman while on parole

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Santa Fe man who was on parole is back behind bars after police say he kidnapped a woman while the two were having a fight. According to Santa Fe police, a woman was talking with Frank Mares II.

When an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the woman got in the car with police, saying the two appeared to be in a physical struggle. Police say Mares was arrested after he crashed his vehicle and tried to flee on foot.

The woman was given medical attention for a small cut on her leg. Court records show Mares was on probation for drug charges, and the courts previously wanted to revoke it in January after documents say he failed to check in with his parole officer.

Mares is now in the Santa Fe County detention Center facing several charges, including kidnapping, aggravated fleeing, and evading an officer.
