NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Fast-moving wispy clouds are occasionally passing through but it’s mostly clear for most with calmer westerly winds than yesterday afternoon, but strong enough still that the winds are allowing for air to descend down the east slopes of the mountains while leading to a warmer effect at the dry surface, resulting in the above-normal morning temperatures in the Rio Grande Valley to southern communities of New Mexico with many starting off in the 50s to the 60s with a few areas in Southeast New Mexico starting off in the lower 70s, while around-freezing temperatures are occurring for a few areas in the Northern Mountains to the Northeast Highlands with northeasterly winds developing.
Strong westerly to northwesterly wind gusts will then develop under the still very dry air-mass, leading to some dust with the lingering higher fire threat as another temperature divide will form today, ranging from the upper 30s to the low 60s in the Four Corners, while a vast majority of communities from the Metro to the south and east will be around the upper 60s to the 80s.
Unstable weather in the form of a low pressure system will bring in a push of wet then wintry conditions for many later today through tomorrow with snow in either northern areas or in the mountains with colder air arriving later today with a Pacific front from the Four Corners, as well as a backdoor front from the Northeast Highlands, which will shift winds to from the east in East New Mexico with East Canyon winds overnight, allowing for even colder air as conditions dry out with only some patchy fog through early Easter Sunday Morning; but then, improving conditions with higher temperatures, dry air, and calmer winds, will return afterwards.
