ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Former New Mexico lawmaker Sheryl Williams Stapleton, accused of swindling millions out of Albuquerque Public Schools, is now under the supervision of pretrial services. Stapleton has pleaded not guilty to 35 charges, including conspiracy to defraud the Unites States and multiple counts of bribery and money laundering.

Stapleton was scheduled for a pretrial hearing Tuesday morning in front of Judge David Murphy, but she showed up 30 minutes late for that hearing. Judge Murphy was visibly upset with her tardiness and amended her conditions of release, putting her under the supervision of pretrial services. Stapleton has a federal trial scheduled on September 30. Judge Murphy is hoping for the state trial to being in late December.
