(NEXSTAR) – A small plane crashed near a major highway in South Florida on Friday, killing all three people on board, police in Boca Raton said.
Another person on the ground was said to be injured and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, who cited Boca Raton’s Fire Rescue Services with the information.
Local officials said the aircraft crashed just southwest of the Boca Raton airport. Aerial footage shared by NBC affiliate WTVJ from the scene of the accident appears to show debris littered across a roadway just west of Interstate 95. Debris could also be seen across a pair of train tracks nearby.
Video taken by an onlooker also showed a car in flames near the site of the crash.
“Possible plane crash right outside my office today,” wrote X user @DrDronezChannel, who shared the footage online. “Shook the whole building. Unfortunately I’m certain lives were lost here today.”
In a statement shared with Nexstar, a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said the plane, a Cessna 310, crashed at around 10:20 a.m. after departing from the nearby airport. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will be investigating, the spokesperson said.
