ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The runway turned into a celebration of culture and heritage Thursday night as Albuquerque Public Schools’ students flaunted traditional regalia in the district’s 17th annual Native American Fashion Show. “I’ve never done this before, this is my first time doing this. I feel happy that I’m doing it now because I’m going into more of what I am, and I’m figuring out how my culture is and what we do,” said Adacyn Toledo, a student and designer.
The event featured beadwork, intricate cultural designs, and outfits passed down through generations. All modeled and designed by students, proud to represent their roots.<“I’m wearing a traditional ribbon skirt and I made it myself, I bought the shirt and the belt. And I’m wearing my grandmother’s jewelry too,” said Toledo.
Event organizers said the goal is to honor Native culture and help students feel pride in their identity.
