NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Above-normal morning temperatures were present with still very clear skies, mostly calm winds, and dry air, as the northwestern corner of the region was starting off around or just below the freezing mark with very few areas in the northern mountains dropping near the high teens earlier, while many areas to the southeast were starting off in the 50s with a somewhat-pesky westerly wind accelerating down the east slopes of the central mountains, creating that even warmer start for some.

Very few high-level clouds will pass on through today out in front of a high pressure system moving in the Southwest, as despite a weak backdoor front stalling along the central mountain chain with a few areas in the northeast highlands not getting out of the upper 60s with a peskier easterly wind, temperatures across western New Mexico will reach way above normal in the 70s to the 80s for most, in the low 90 degrees in a few southwestern communities, but some areas in the Enchanted Circle and the San Juan Mountains will not get out of the high 50s or 60s, but mild enough that snowmelt will continue.
Stable air under the approaching high pressure system will continue to lead to very clear skies with mostly light winds as temperatures won’t just rise above normal, but they’ll likely reach around record territory by the end of the week into the early weekend before more clouds, lower temperatures, and stronger winds move through.
