GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) – United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stopped by a charter school in Gallup Wednesday afternoon but didn’t answer any questions about the measles outbreak in the state. Secretary Kennedy spoke to the students at Hozho Academy Charter School about President Donald Trump’s Make America Healthy Again effort.
He spoke about the assassination of his dad, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, and his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, before bringing up his concerns about processed foods. “The most important thing is the food, the food that we have today is poisonous if you buy food, eat food out of a package, it almost certainly has poison in it,” said Secretary Kennedy Jr.
A Harvard medical study said processed foods are dangerous in large amounts. Kennedy Jr. didn’t answer any formal questions and did not address the measles outbreak in the state. The New Mexico Department of Health said there have been 56 measles cases so far.
He also did not address the cuts of jobs or services, especially in Native American areas. 10,000 Health and Human Services employees have been laid off in a restructuring. He acknowledged in an interview Wednesday morning that some of the DOGE cuts and programs will have to be reinstated.
