Traffic Alert: Pavement project begins on NM 2 in Chaves County

CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — A pavement preservation project has begun on a major highway in Chaves County. Drivers can expect some delays on NM 2 from Dexter and Hagerman as that project is underway.

Work is being performed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a single-lane closure with a pilot car and flagging operations. The New Mexico Department of Transportation would like to remind drivers to be cautious in the work zone.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of April. This is a restoration project where asphalt is applied over the existing surface to prolong the road’s lifespan without full reconstruction. It’s a $2 million project contracted out to Brasier Asphalt.
