ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque City councilors decided the fate of a significant development project on the west side. On Paseo del Norte and Kimmick Drive, city councilors greenlit an area they think would be an ideal spot for a shopping center. Developers are working to bring new stores, grocers, and daycare options to the underdeveloped residential area.
In 2024, city planners approved design plans for the eight-acre lotbut construction was on hold until city leaders dealt with concerns from nearby residents. The Westside Coalition of Neighborhood Associations filed an appeal, trying to stop the project over zoning concerns. But the city’s Land Use Hearing Officer rejected that appeal, arguing the association did not file in a timely manner.
The decision passed on an 8-1 vote, meaning construction will move forward.
