NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The United States Department of Justice is ramping up its crime-fighting efforts in Indian Country. The DOJ’s Operation Not Forgotten is deploying 60 FBI agents to pueblos across the country for a six-month period.
They will tackle unresolved crimes, including the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people. The Justice Department said crime and victimization on Native land is “persistent.” At the start of this fiscal year, the FBI’s Indian Country program had more than 4,000 open investigations ranging from death, child abuse, domestic violence, and adult sexual abuse.
