ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department announced on Tuesday that two officers who were part of the DWI Unit have been fired. Gustvo Gomez, a deputy commander, and Matthew Chavez, a lieutenant in the Valley Area Command, were both fired.

Gomez had worked for Albuquerque police since 2008 and was part of the DWI Unit from 2010 to 2013. He had been on administrative leave since October 2024.
Chavez had worked for APD since 2008 and had been part of the DWI Unit. Chavez had been placed on the Brady-Giglio disclosure list, which meant his credibility in court had been called into question. He had been on administrative leave since January.
Thirteen APD officers have left the department as part of the federal investigation. Four of them have pled guilty to federal charges.
