ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) — A Roswell man already in custody has been served additional charges in connection to a homicide from 2019, the Roswell Police Department confirmed on Monday. Police say 36-year-old Matthew S. Trujillo is accused of shooting 30-year-old Stefon Gregory Doram Jr. after an argument broke out early evening Oct. 13 in south Roswell.
The investigation has determined Doram was in a vehicle stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Walker Boulevard and Eyman Street that night. A vehicle being driven by Trujillo pulled up beside Doram. Trujillo got into the back of the vehicle with Doram. Police say they both had guns.
An argument possibly about drugs began. According to police, Trujillo shot at Doram, who shot back. A woman driving the vehicle jumped out with no injuries. Investigation has determined more gunshots were fired before Trujillo exited the vehicle and fired one or more shots.
Doram was shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he later died. Police say Trujillo was not struck, and he left the scene in the vehicle he arrived in. In connection to this case, Trujillo is being charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and felon in possession of a firearm. He was previously facing these charges in different, unrelated cases:
- Aggravated battery
- Conspiracy to commit aggravated battery
- Two counts of battery upon a peace officer
- Aggravated battery upon a peace officer
