ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A 14-year-old is dead after a shooting in northeast Albuquerque Friday night. Albuquerque police are investigating it as a justifiable homicide.
According to APD, several teenagers were involved in a fight with people at an apartment complex on Tramway near Copper. They say the teens chased people into an upstairs unit, where the fighting continued.
Police say one of the teens threw a rock at the unit’s window where the resident then fired at the teens, hitting the 14-year-old. The resident told police their children were inside the apartment with them and they warned the teens he had a gun as they tried to enter the unit.
That resident was questioned by police and released; they are not facing charges at this time. The 14-year-old boy died at the scene.
Police believe the shooting was in self-defense, but stay they will continue to investigate.
