Windy, fire threat to the east, precipitation to the north

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Very mild air with temperatures way above the freezing mark for nearly all as high as the low 70s in South New Mexico but as low as around or below freezing in the San Juan Mountain communities, with low humidity values accompanied by persistent southerly to westerly winds, are already in place across the region; as despite very-fast passing clouds with some high-elevation light snow in the North Mountains, the big story will be the blowing dust that will accompany the higher fire threat later today with the next storm system approaching the Four Corners later this morning as temperatures will drop later this afternoon after the Pacific front moves through.

Unstable atmospheric conditions in the form of the next low pressure system around Arizona this morning will bring more-widespread northern rain/snow later today as the system moves through later today into early tomorrow as the potential for damaging winds will be high for East New Mexico later today as winds will switch from the west-southwest to from the north-northwest, eventually bringing colder air after temperatures today reach the 70s and 80s for Southeast New Mexico, 50s to the low 70s in the Rio Grande Valley, but barely warming up in the 30 and 40s in the Northwest Mountain communities.

Turbulent weather in the short term will lead to less-windy conditions later this week into the weekend with relatively mild air eventually returning as little precipitation will fall in the northern communities.
