Calm day for weather

Temperatures across the state are climbing. At the same time our next storm system is strengthening over the Baja.

A high pressure system moved over New Mexico this past Sunday. The result is clear skies and warmer temperatures for the entire state. Sunday saw a rapid increase in temperatures statewide. This afternoon that warming trend will continue. Nearly all of eastern New Mexico will be in the 70’s. Parts of southeastern New Mexico could reach the 80’s.

The high pressure system will remain overhead through tomorrow. However, active weather will return Tuesday afternoon. Southern New Mexico will have incredibly dry air in place combined with warm temperatures and increasing winds. These conditions have led the National Weather Service to place the area under a Red Flag Warning. This warning will be in effect for Tuesday March 11th.

Our next storm system is forecasted to move into New Mexico on Wednesday. This storm will be bringing isolated chances for rain and snow beginning Wednesday and lasting all the way through Saturday morning. The best chances for snow are in the higher elevations. However, models are showing chances for light snow in the valleys. Another high pressure is forecasted to move in behind the low this weekend.
