ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The ABQ BioPark is taking precautions to protect its birds from avian flu.
No cases have been found at the BioPark, but it has been detected in Bernalillo County. As a result, the BioPark has moved some of its birds indoors to minimize any potential exposure to the flu.
The team will bring in the remaining birds if deemed necessary. Birds will be moved back outdoors once covers have been installed over their habitats, the BioPark said in a news release.
The BioPark is also asking guests to not feed birds as it will cause them to gather, putting them at greater risk of transmission. Signs have been placed near the duck pond to relay that message.
Staff also are advising people to not handle dead or sick birds.
This is not the first time the BioPark has implemented these measures to protect its birds. In, 2022 birds were moved inside due tot he same concerns.
