ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 2025 USL Championship Season kicked off on the road for New Mexico United on Saturday night, but it wouldn’t be the result the Black and Yellow were looking for. Sacramento Republic FC beat NM United 2-1 in a match where United was down a man in the 2nd half.
It was a great start for the Black and Yellow, as they took a 1-nil lead in the 21st minute, as Greg Hurst netted NM United’s first goal of the season after showcasing some fancy footwork. The 1-goal lead would not last though, as later in the 1st half Kalen Ryden would earn a Red Card after a penalty in the box. Sacramento tied the game at one after a successful penalty kick.
Tied at 1 at the half, Sacramento would jump out in the 2nd half with a goal in the 47th minute. NM United would be down a man and would be unable to answer in the 2nd half, as they fall 2-1.
The Dennis Sanchez Coaching era starts with a loss, as NM United opens the season with a loss on the road. The Black and Yellow will remain on the road, as they look to bounce back, playing Coach Sanchez’s former team, at Las Vegas Lights. That match will be next Saturday at 8:30 p.m. That match will be streamed online at KRQE.com and will also be broadcast on New Mexico 50.
