Man with dementia safely reunited with his caseworker by Albuquerque agencies

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man experiencing a dementia-related episode is back with his caseworker after a coordinated response from local agencies. A police officer found the man disoriented at Silver Street Market in February and called Albuquerque Community Safety. ACS provided support before asking the University of New Mexico Hospital to assess his condition.

After failed attempts to contact his family, adult protective services said they were actively searching for him. “He was very grateful that we were able to get him back home, him being an elderly man by himself, in this area, he’s vulnerable to different things, whether that be traffic… Or people trying to harm him. So we’re able to get him into a safe place and take him back home,” said Abran Aragon, Behavioral Health Responder, ACS.

The man was taken home and his caseworker arranged for a family member to help him transition to assisted living.
