Most diverse cities: Which New Mexican cities made the list? 

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Due to recent rapid diversification in many different demographics, America is undergoing several big changes. The percentage of people in the U.S. who are multiracial increased from just 2.9% in 2010 to 10.2% in 2020, for example. WalletHub recently released its list ranking the most diverse cities in the U.S.

Santa Fe is ranked the most diverse city in New Mexico, coming in at 48 on WalletHub’s list. Santa Fe received an overall score of 69.86, with a socioeconomic diversity rank of 17, a cultural diversity rank of 99, an economic diversity rank of 72, a household diversity rank of 234, and a religious diversity rank of 177.

Albuquerque is ranked at 51, with Clovis at 72, Hobbs at 106, Rio Rancho at 132, Roswell at 154, Farmington at 164, Las Cruces at 200, South Valley at 216, and Alamogordo at 297.

South Valley, NM, has the highest occupational diversity in the U.S., 40% higher than the average of all cities. The metrics for ranking occupational diversity include management, business, science, and arts occupations; service occupations; sales and office occupations; natural-resources, construction, and maintenance occupations; and production, transportation, and material moving occupations.

The study combined demographics from sources such as household, religious, socioeconomic, cultural, and economic diversity. WalletHub tallied the scores across these five major diversity categories for 501 of the largest cities in the U.S. across 13 more specific metrics.
