ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man who committed a fatal hit and run more than a year ago will spend seven years behind bars. In October 2023, Jamphal Wangyal hit and killed Charlie Joe III on the intersection of Louisiana Blvd. and Indian School Rd. After the crash, Wangyal told a family member he hit a tree.
During Thursday’s sentencing, Charlie’s family spoke. “Sometimes my daughter will sit in silence and then ask what is wrong, she’ll say I miss my uncle so much, with uncontrollable tears running down her face.”
Last year, Wangyal pled no contest to homicide by vehicle. On Thursday, Judge Emeterio Rudolfo sentenced him to seven years behind bars.
