Spring-like temperatures return for the last week of February 

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Frigid air has gripped eastern New Mexico for the last few days, but warmer weather will be moving in through the weekend. Record and near-record warmth is possible early next week.

Temperatures Friday continue a slow warming trend across eastern New Mexico, but it is still cooler than average. Meanwhile, in central, western, and northern New Mexico, temperatures are cooler today thanks to a weak cold front drifting down into the state. It will be another cold night across New Mexico, but temperatures really start warming up this weekend.

Highs will be back to around average statewide Saturday afternoon with warmer weather everywhere. On Sunday, highs could climb as much as 20° over Saturday with even warmer weather moving in. It will be sunny and breezy across New Mexico too on Sunday. This warming trend will continue into early next week with record and near-record high temperatures possible in parts of the state Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Another weak cold front will move across New Mexico by the middle of next week, bringing a small drop in temperature statewide. All week-long temperatures will stay above average for the end of February.
