LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – In a special Las Vegas City Council meeting, councilors and residents addressed the ongoing water crisis plaguing the city. “I don’t have any faith in the plant that we have anymore because it’s just a constant thing…I even think back when I was 25 years old we still had problems,” said a speaker.

City officials are still fixing water lines to get their water treatment system working again. Last week, a major water line burst, which cut pressure to hundreds of Las Vegas homes. The city issued a mandatory boil water advisory saying it’s unsafe to drink water from the tap. The city is still working to upgrade its water treatment plant which continues to struggle to process water from the Gallinas River after the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Fire.

Officials said water pressure is still low and smaller pipes have burst but progress is being made. “I think it’s very important that we understand that we had many compounding reasons that has led us into this situation that we were….”I think we need to be very careful as to not say that was the sole reason and that’s important and this is where the community is probably going to be frustrated with us. But you got to understand a thorough after-incident review will be done,” said Las Vegas Mayor David G. Romero.

The cause of the burst pipe is still under investigation.
