Kiowa and Rita Blanca grasslands set for prescribed burn

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Prescribed burns have been scheduled in the Cibola National Forest & Grasslands, pending favorable conditions. The burns aim to reduce hazardous fuels within the Kiowa and Rita Blanca grasslands set to begin Sunday, February 23 through February 24.

The Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands say the 1,297 total acres have been prepared to receive fire. Smoke may be visible from Clayton, New Mexico, and Felt, Oklahoma. They say ignition will depend on agency administrator approval and conditions within the ranges.
