(NewsNation) — A Florida woman is suspected of stealing $800,000 in “TrumpCoin” cryptocurrency from her ex-boyfriend, according to local news outlets.
Anthony Bravo went to Miami police to report that his ex-girlfriend, Maissa Jebali, was not in the yacht where they lived, reports WPLG in Florida.
“She unlocked my phone and transferred $850,000 of Trump Coin from my phantom wallet directly into her phantom wallet,” Bravo said, according to NBC Miami.
Bravo later found charges on his American Express credit card, which Jebali allegedly used to purchase an Airbnb for $4,000 and a shopping spree for $14,000.
Bravo hired a private investigator, who found Jebali at a hotel in downtown Miami on Feb. 14. The private investigator also indicated that Jebali, originally from Tunisia, had allegedly overstayed her visa.
Jebali told police that Bravo was her ex-boyfriend and that he let her use the credit card he reported stolen. She also said she ended the relationship with Bravo and did not want him to find her.
Jebali was taken into custody by local authorities but was later transferred to ICE custody, where she is currently being held. She has not yet been charged in connection with the crypto theft.
She faces two felony counts of grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. If she is not prosecuted, she faces deportation back to Tunisia.
