A woman who was with the two men told police that they went to the mesa to shoot Roberts’ newly purchased gun the morning after they were drinking at Roberts’ apartment. The woman said when they left the mesa, they stopped at a gas station and bought more alcohol before going back to Roberts’ apartment.
The woman told officers that they arrived at the apartment complex and began drinking in the vehicle. At one point, the woman said Roberts told Huntsman to “get your s*** together” and take the shoes off that he gave him.
Roberts then reportedly said, “I might as well kill you if you don’t care about your life,” before shooting and killing Huntsman, according to the woman’s interview with police detailed in the court documents.
The woman told police that Roberts acknowledged that he killed his friend and then started making statements about harming himself.
The woman called the police, and responding officers took Roberts into custody. He was booked into the Metro Detention Center and is charged with an open count of murder and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
Officers found Huntsman dead in the parking lot, according to court documents.
