Dozens of couples get married at Bernalillo County Metro Court on Valentine’s Day

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the 25th year in a row, the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court joined dozens of happy couples in marriage making Valentine’s Day even more special for them. 75 couples took the plunge on Friday, presided by Judge Joshua Sanchez.

It’s not only a big day for these new families but for the court staff, who look forward to the event every year. “We deal with a lot of serious, somber issues in this courthouse every single day. This is really a joyous day for all of us in Metro Court. Upper courts have limited jurisdiction, and we don’t get to do the adoptions like they do in District Court. So our big day is Valentine’s Day,” said Chief Judge Joshua J. Sanchez, Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court.

Judge Frank Sedillo started the tradition on Valentine’s Day, in the year 2000. This is the second year the event has been back in person after happening on Zoom during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
