COLFAX COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Eagle Nest community jumped into action Thursday night after a mill caught fire. Village officials say the slash pile behind the Rockies Market and Mammoth Mill caught fire around 6:00 p.m. during a town meeting.

Fire crews say that’s where residents of all ages, including teenagers, started helping fight the flames, building dirt barriers to prevent further spread. Firefighters contained the fire within three hours.
A trailer was completely lost to the flames and several people were treated for smoke inhalation. There is no word yet on what started the fire.
