Warmer, windier weather returns Friday

Warmer and windier weather will bring a high fire danger Friday across parts of New Mexico. Wetter and cooler weather is on the way next week.

Yet another warm, spring-like day across New Mexico, despite temperatures being a couple degrees cooler than Wednesday. Winds are also light Thursday afternoon across the state. A few clouds will move in overnight and stick around Friday, but temperatures are going to be even warmer and the winds are going to be stronger. A few record high temperatures are likely again Friday afternoon. Westerly winds could gust up to 40 mph in the eastern half of the state where a Red Flag Warning will go into effect. There will be an elevated fire danger across much of New Mexico with the warm, dry, and windy weather, but the highest threat will be in eastern parts of the state. Winds will die down for most Friday evening, but will stick around the Sangre de Cristo Mountains into early Saturday morning.

Another warm and breezy day returns Saturday, but a cold front will start moving into the northeastern part of the state. This front will make a push across the state through Sunday morning, bringing slightly cooler temperatures to New Mexico starting Sunday.

Temperatures will continue to cool through the middle of next week, finally returning to around average by Wednesday. A series of weather disturbance will also pass across the state, bringing a chance for mountain snow and valley rain to areas along and north of I-40 Monday through Wednesday. More snow and rain may also move in late next week.
