ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Former world title contender and one of the best boxing prospects in New Mexico, Fidel Maldonado Jr. has been away from the sport for five years. Holding a 27-5-1 professional record, Maldonado is now ready to get back in the ring and showcase a reinvigorated fighter.

“It’s pretty much unfinished business. I had a lot of stuff that I could have done a thousand times better and hopefully,y this time out you guys get to see my true potential, rather than me going out there and not using my brain, because I know I am a very good boxer and I am better, I am better than everybody thinks”, said Fidel Maldonado Jr.
Maldonado gained a new perspective on the fight game as a whole while he was away from the sport, and now older and wiser, he is ready to showcase a new and improved “Atrisco Kid” when he takes on Germán Ivan Meraz as part of the Resurrection Fight card on April 19. Meraz is a veteran of the game and currently holds a 65-72-3 professional record. Maldonado is excited to jump right in against an experienced fighter, but he also says that this fight is just the beginning.
“We are going to see how far we can take it and hopefully go out there and get some belts, but we are going to take it one fight at a time. I haven’t really watched too much on him, but I know he is a durable guy and we will see what tricks he has, but no matter what I got a lot of tricks too”, said Maldonado.
Abraham Perez will headline the April 19 Resurrection fight card, which will be held at the Embassy Suites in Albuquerque.
