Albuquerque man sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who pled no contest to voluntary manslaughter after stabbing a man during a fight in downtown Albuquerque nearly three years ago will spend 2.5 years behind bars. Augustus Brasmer got into an altercation with Sheldon Saunders over a skateboard outside of the Sunshine Theater in March 2022.

Witnesses told police they were fighting on the sidewalk and were separated. That’s when Brasmer stabbed Saunders killing him. Video showed Saunders attacking Brasmer after being separated. Brasmer’s lawyers said his client attacked in self-defense.

Judge Rudolfo Emeterio sentenced him to 2.5 years behind bars.
