Maggie the Black Bear celebrates 20th birthday

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Parks recently celebrated the 20th birthday of one of their longest zoo residents living in southeastern New Mexico. The agency recently celebrated Maggie the Black Bear’s birthday Saturday at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park in Carlsbad.

Maggie is known for painting with her paws as a behavioral enrichment activity. She was raised by a wildlife rehabilitator in Missouri after being orphaned at just one-month-old before finding a home at the Living Desert Zoo at around five months old.

State parks say since Maggie has arrived at the zoo, she has become a favorite to visitors.
