ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Already with more than two dozen dog parks, the City of Albuquerque celebrated the opening of its latest place for man’s best friend on Saturday. Located off Osuna and Vista Del Norte, the new Vista Del Norte Dog Park is the city’s 26th and the city says it’s the first in the north-central part of Albuquerque, west of I-25.
According to the city, the new park is the first in Albuquerque to reuse downed cottonwood logs for tree protection and seating. The park is also divided into a small and large dog area and includes shade and water stations to help keep pets hydrated and cool.
“The future is bright for our four-legged friends here in the city, and that means it’s bright for our families and our communities. When we invest in parks and we have happy dogs, pretty sure it’s going to mean happy Burqueños too,” says Dave Simon, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
The city says projects at other dog parks are also nearing completion with hopes to open them this year. They also say planning is underway for new dog parks at Pat Hurley and Heritage Hills parks, and the Uptown area.
