Albuquerque Fire Rescue Academy auditorium named after retired firefighter

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Fire Academy auditorium is going by a new name now honoring one of their most celebrated firefighters. Sam Trujillo joined the force in 1968 and retired as assistant fire chief in 1985. He had a big hand in creating many aspects of training, policy, and program development.

“The brotherhood that we create in the fire services goes beyond the job. I could go across this nation and run into a firefighter, and not just shake hands with them, but hug them, knowing that we are brothers and sisters through the fire profession,” said Trujillo.

Trujillo was also appointed by the governor to the Albuquerque veteran advisory board.
