HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed a plane crash at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia on Thursday.
According to officials, an MX Aircraft MXS — a two-seat sport aircraft — crashed while the pilot was attempting to land at the base around 11:50 a.m.
The pilot was the only person onboard at the time of the incident. Officials have not made any statements regarding the pilot’s condition.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, with the NTSB leading the investigation.
Joint Base Langley-Eustis issued a statement Thursday afternoon, saying, “The safety and security of our personnel and the local community are our top priorities.”
