Raton Doubles Score on Tucumcari To Win District Contest

The Tucumcari at Raton baseball game was the final home game of the season for Raton and was moved to Monday afternoon because of a lack of umpires and the Raton Tigers apparently liked the move as the Tigers scored a 20 to 10 five inning victory over the Rattlers.

With the win, the Tigers ran their season record to 8 -10 and improved their district mark to 5-2.  The game was the last home game of the season and senior’s Chase Middlebrook, Cameron Edmondson and Clayton Kelly had their last game at Gabrieli Field end in a winning effort.

Middlebrook leads off in the lineup for Coach Robby Armijo and he went 3 for 4 with three doubles and 4 RBIs and scored 3 times.  He batted twice for the home team in the first inning with Raton batting around and notching six runs in the home half.

Tucumcari tied it up with four of their own in the third inning, but Raton bats answered back with five in their third and batted thru the order again in the decisive fifth getting another seven spot and the win.

Raton pitcher Azden Romero was relieved by Santiago Castillo and the two combined for 8 strikeouts.

Raton finishes the season with three games on the road including at Estancia on Friday the 25th.
