Tuesday’s Five Facts
[1] Man charged federally for arson attacks at Tesla, Republican Party of NM headquarters – Early Saturday morning, federal agents arrested 40-year-old Jamison Wagner at a northwest Albuquerque home near McMahon and Unser. The FBI says in February Wagner damaged the Tesla showroom at the Tesla dealership on the Santa Ana Pueblo and graffitied the outside with “Die Tesla” spelled with a swastika. In the early morning hours of March 30, the FBI says Wagner torched the entrance to the state Republican Party Headquarters and left graffiti on the building equating ICE to the KKK. During the raid of Wagner’s home, agents found a white cardboard box containing incendiary devices and a stencil matching graffiti found on the Republican Party Headquarters.
[2] VIDEO: Group of young men topple water fountain in Old Town – Security video shows seven young men walking around the fountain in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque before one of them climbs the fountian. Video shows someone breaking that fountain in half before running off. Pete Kassetas is the owner of the property and the business ‘Outpost 1706.’ Kassetas said that the fountain costs nearly $5,000. However, he said, because this has happened before, he will not be replacing the fountain again.
[3] East Canyon winds then warmer weather with strong winds – East Canyon winds have picked up with some patchy blowing dust in the Metro as while clouds are plentiful, conditions are mostly dry. Dry air with mostly warmer air will then rush in with the higher fire threat as more-widespread dust will be accompanied by potentially-damaging winds tomorrow into Thursday. A push of even wetter conditions with cooler air will arrive by the end of the week into Easter Weekend with some rain for many, as well as some snowfall in the northern mountains.
[4] Albuquerque Isotopes upcoming homestand features theme nights – It’s a big week for the Albuquerque Isotopes. Tuesday night, players will be donning the number ’42’ for Jackie Robinson night. Friday, the team will wear specialty “Malmo Oat Milkers” jerseys in partnership with Oatly. On Saturday, the Isotopes will be wearing their new “City Roots” jerseys for the first time this season.
[5] Santa Fe restaurant serves as landing path for former inmates reentering society – A New Mexico man is finding new purpose through a Santa Fe reintegration program. Isaac Sork says he landed a job as a cook at Escondido while still in prison when he signed up for a culinary course, part of a new nonprofit created by Top Chef Winner Fernando Ruiz and Ralph Martinez. The inmates in the cooking course are close to their release. Chef Ruiz said the restaurant is named Escondido because it means hidden in Spanish, which was a pillar of his lifestyle when he was in drugs.
