NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – PNM is temporarily changing system settings due to the weather, meaning there will be an increased chance of extended, weather-related outages Friday through Sunday in some New Mexico communities.
The system changes will be in areas where there is an elevated wildfire risk in response to Red Flag Warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
PNM said these settings cause lines to automatically de-energize when strong winds cause debris, trees, or wildlife to come into contact lines, reducing the chance of igniting a fire.
The enhanced system settings will be in effect in the following areas:
- Clayton
- Las Vegas
- Santa Fe
- Silver City
As of Friday, PNM does not anticipate the need to implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in any of the communities it serves.
