Hottest air of season with records in short term

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – East Canyon Winds have been gusty to start in the Metro with the lingering effects of the backdoor cold front mostly falling apart in the Rio Grande Valley, as well as in the Pecos River Valley, but above-normal morning temperatures are once again mostly present despite the cooler air for some with still very clear skies and dry air, as the northwestern corner of the region is starting off around or just below the freezing mark with very few areas in the Northern Mountains nearing the high teens, while many areas to the southeast are starting off in the 50s.

Very few high-level clouds will pass on through today out in front of the high pressure system moving into Southwest New New Mexico, as temperatures will reach way above normal in the 70s to the 80s for most, in the low 90 degrees in a few southwestern communities once again, but some areas in the Enchanted Circle and the San Juan Mountains will not get out of the high 50s or 60s, but mild enough that snowmelt will continue.

Stable air under the approaching high pressure system will continue to lead to very clear skies with mostly light winds in the short term as temperatures won’t just rise above normal, but they’ll likely reach around record territory tomorrow before more clouds, lower temperatures, and stronger winds move through later tomorrow into Sunday.
